Introduction
Our Church from High StreetOur church, dedicated to St. Benedict, is a stone structure that consists of a nave with clestory and aisles, south porch, north door, an embattled chancel with a north chantry for a lady chapel, and a quadrangular tower surmounted by a wonderful spire that is said to be one of the finest in the country.

The general architectural style appears to be of the Late Decorated era, while the tower and spire is partly of the Perpendicular character.

The oak pulpit, which stands on a stone stem is wonderfully carved and the massive square Norman font with a richly carved bason stands at the south door.

In the 12th century it comprised of a chancel and nave, whilst towards the end of that century a chapel was added, and in the 13th century a north aisle, which may have been as wide as the chapel, was in existence, along with a south porch.

The chancel, north chapel, and both aisles were then remodelled in the 14th century, and to a great extent rebuilt.  The west tower and spire, of which John Clare wrote the poem Glinton Spire, was then added in the 15th century.
