Introduction
In this section you'll find some wonderful facts about our village of Glinton.

On researching the history of Glinton we come across the village mentioned in many

historic texts dating back as far as the Doomsday Book in 1086 AD where land ownership was split between the Abbey of Peterborough and three of its knights.  At that time there were around 180 inhabitants and the area was considered to be relatively wealthy.

Our Village Name Throughout History
The place name itself is difficult to trace.  It could be an example of a river name, from the Danish word "klint" meaning hill, the German "glinde" for enclosure, or Old English "glente" for look-out place.

The spelling of Glinton has also changed throughout time:

Clinton in 1060,
Glintone in 1086,
Clemton in 1194,
Glinthowe in 1209, and
Glenton in 1285
